The company is a global manufacturer and marketer of value-added titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigments, a basic industrial product used in a wide range of applications. KRONOS produced the world’s first commercial titanium dioxide in 1916 at the Titan Co, A/S (TAS) plant in Frederiksstad, Norway. It also filed the first patent for the production of anatase titanium dioxide pigment by the sulfate process. Various grades for a wide range of applications are produced by the company by both the sulfite and chloride processes.
